Mealtime is the perfect occasion to get to spend quality time with your family. Gathering at a table together can encourage meaningful conversation, simple games and activities, and memory-making! But not all restaurants are ideal for a kid-friendly meal. These three kid-friendly Houston restaurants, Lazy Dog, Barnaby’s Cafe, and Little Matt’s, are all the perfect environments for dining out with your kids! Read a little more about them right here.
Lazy Dog is the epitome of “small mountain town vibe.” The perfect spot to gather with friends and family. Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or looking for a quick weekday night dinner fix, Lazy Dog is an ideal kid-friendly restaurant for Houston families. Their ingredients are locally sourced from specially selected farmers, and every ingredient is carefully picked and prepared. Everything on the menu is handmade on a day-to-day basis, including every delectable sauce, marinade, and dressing.
They even have a season menu, which is a love letter to in-season ingredients and the unparalleled deliciousness of fresh produce picked at the perfect moment. For those who may have a picky eater or two in the family, their kids’ menu knows their audience pretty well; with classics like mini corn dogs, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, and noodles (plain, buttered, or with marinara), there’s sure to be something to please every palate. Plus, there’s plenty of innovative comfort food (and craft beers!) for grownups!
Barnaby’s Cafe is a love letter to the owner’s childhood sheepdog, and from the moment you walk through the door, its whimsical atmosphere will draw you right in! Their kid-friendly restaurant menu is extensive and more than traditional Houston styles. From delicious salads and sandwiches to juicy burgers and even larger plates like steaks, baby back ribs, and grilled salmon, everyone is sure to find something they’ll enjoy. Their kids’ menu is ideal for younger palates and keeps dining out fun with mini sliders, chicken strips, grilled cheese, and even some simple kids’ desserts like chocolate chip cookies, rice krispy treats, and ice cream! Barnaby’s has a casual and welcoming environment that is perfect for a family meal. Plus, two of their locations serve tasty breakfasts with a full menu of mouth-watering dishes to start your day!
When it comes to a family restaurant, it doesn’t get more family-friendly than Little Matt’s. The owners created the restaurant in honor of their son, who fought leukemia at a very young age. Little Matt’s now grows and thrives on faith, love, and hope, in turn donating proceeds from the restaurant to Texas Children’s Hospital and consistently supporting and recognizing other Houston area organizations that help families and hospitals that may be enduring the same challenges of childhood illness.
Their menu is fun and playful, with plenty of dynamic sandwiches, salads, and specialty plates like their signature chicken enchiladas! Plus, they have plenty of items on the kid’s menu for the discerning young eaters you know and love. Little Matt’s dedication to giving back to the kids in their community is evident from the moment you walk in, and you can enjoy your meal knowing you are helping to support some of the most vulnerable children and families in our community who need it most.
