4 Seasons of Outdoor Activities In Houston For Year-Round Fun
Fall
As fall creeps in, Houston becomes a breath of fresh air – literally. Temperatures begin to drop, and it’s the perfect time to take advantage of pleasant Houston weather with outdoor activities. You can stroll through some of the city’s beautiful parks, taking in the sights of changing leaves or packing an autumn-inspired picnic. You can also travel a short distance to nearby farms that feature a variety of fall activities, like corn mazes, apple picking, and hayrides. Of course, it’s also the perfect time of year to visit a pumpkin patch and pick out the perfect pumpkin to decorate your house or carve into a spooky jack-o-lantern. Animal lovers should visit the Houston Zoo, which comes to life in the fall as cooler temperatures invite animals to be more active in their exhibit!
Winter
In the wintertime, the city fills to the brim with holiday spirit, transforming Houston into a festive outdoor activities wonderland. Give ice skating a try (or brush off your skates and show off your skills) at one of Houston’s indoor or outdoor skating rinks. Take the time to enjoy beautiful light displays that only come around this time of year. You can also visit a nearby Christmas Tree farm to make memories, choosing and cutting down your own Christmas tree to have on display for the season.
Spring
There is plenty in the outdoors to explore in Houston as the weather begins to warm up and the city springs to life with activities again. It’s the perfect time of year to take in the city’s spectacular gardens, brimming with color and greenery. Take your little ones to a nearby playground to enjoy playing outside unhindered by bulky coats and jackets. It’s also a great time for a picnic, so pack up your basket and find a perfect spot in one of the city’s beautiful parks.
Summer
Ah, summer in Texas. It’s the season of intense heat, but it’s plenty enjoyable for those who enjoy water activities and the great outdoors. Check out the Typhoon Texas Waterpark for plenty of slides, pools, and lazy rivers to keep you cool in the midday heat. Or, take a day trip to one of the nearby beaches – there are several within a 30-60 minute driving distance! You can also pack up your tent or RV for some good ol’ fashioned camping at one of our many campsites.
